In this episode of Oblivion cut content, we’ll take a look at a concept for a DLC that wanted to add Holidays to your game, like they appeared in previous Elder Scrolls games.
My last meme taught me that while people will easily click dumb shit, they won't comment as easily, so I appreciate the people that go out of their way to leave comments even more now. In other news, how's the new mic?
There could have been many different ways to solve such an issue of letting players know when the event was going to happen. Perhaps town criers or use the Black Horse Courier something along the lines of that. And maybe to let the player know when it's close, have phases that lead up to the event, maybe like construction of stalls, banners, flags etc. I agree, it would be difficult to do such a thing with time constraints and space. And unless they give exceptionally rare items or items that have amazing benefits, then there wouldn't be a point.
I would love a tour from tod ore pete about all the shit that was conceptualized but never put in because its wasn't any fun or they didn't like it. But that won't happen D:
Have you ever found more of these DLC traces ? I bet you already have but i am sorry that i forgot ^^'
I would've liked it if holidays were less of a transformation in the characters and policies for a day, and more of a transformation in the towns with decorations and such, and other non-voice acted things. It'd cost less dev time to plan out and be just as effective for world building I think.
It's still very strange to me that Bethesda chose to have different voice actors read the exact same line for stuff like this.
Like, one guy could have sat down for one hour and written a slight variation of the line for each voice actor, giving them more variety for basically free and avoiding that unsettling "hive mind" effect.
I think there was supposed to be a "St. Jiub's Fair" in Cheydinhal, iirc one of the orcs says he's tasked with organizing it – maybe a related topic to investigate?
Maybe holiday's based on an in-game calender and not a real life one, would work better. And make the holiday last and in-game week or something so the player has a chance to access it.
I'm so disappointed that holidays aren't really a part of the more recent TES games. Even the ones in TESO can be repetitive and boring (but that's an MMO) But Skyrim's holidays were implemented by a modder and I love them so much. I can't imagine my game without them. It makes me actually want to plan my adventures around when I'm going to be in these cities just so I can participate. I need holidays to be more important, it would be so great.
Hearing the cut male Khajiit/Argonian and Nord/Orc voice lines make me wish that Jonathan Bryce wasn't such… An enigma. His voice is incredible, but both performances AND information are hard to come by.

21.09.2023Man calling DLC “Plug-ins” was a seriously old school thing for gaming, now you just see that in modding

20.09.2023I wish the line at 6:09 was kept it, with the voice actress's mistake left in. It wouldn't be Oblivion without something like that.
